Biography
Elizabeth Treat starred as Edwina Bombastina in Edward Barnes’s Mystery on the Docks in 2024 with Manhattan’s Prelude Opera for Children, following a 2023 company debut in The Magic Flute, directed by Bronx Opera’s Ben Spierman, singing both Queen of the Night and First Lady. She sang the leading role of Liza Elliot in the Bronx Opera’s 2023 production of Kurt Weill’s Lady in the Dark at the Lovinger Theater, after a company debut the previous spring singing Sophie Villefort in the premiere of a new opera by Steven Wallace based on The Count of Monte Cristo.
Elizabeth celebrated her solo debut at Lincoln Center in May 2019, appearing as a featured guest with the University Glee Club at Alice Tully Hall. Other recent performances in New York City include the role of Fiordiligi in Mozart’s beloved Così fan tutte with Amore Opera at the Riverside Theatre, and the title character in Flotow’s Martha with Utopia Opera, garnering praise for a “winning” performance, with “attractive trills” and “impressive leaps about the scale.” Opera Theater of Montclair (NJ) showcased Elizabeth’s Rosina at a special holiday opera concert in historic Van Vleck House in 2016, following a successful company debut as Konstanze in Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail.
Washington Opera Society has featured Elizabeth in many grand galas and full operas staged at embassies and ambassadorial residences in Washington, D.C., including the embassies of France, Indonesia, Poland, Slovenia, and Colombia. Roles include Queen of the Night (Die Zauberflöte), Clorinda (La Cenerentola), Marie (La Fille du Régiment), and a triumphant Washington debut as Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the O.A.S. Hall of the Americas, led by Metropolitan Opera conductor Gregory Buchalter.
Pop sensation Gotye created a synthesized instrument out of Elizabeth’s voice for a 2016 retrospective on electronic music legend Jean-Jacques Perrey, premiered at the National Sawdust in Brooklyn.
Queen of the Night has been a very popular role for Elizabeth, which she has performed with the Light Opera of New Jersey, Regina Opera, Amore Opera, One World Symphony, New York Lyric Opera, and Intermezzo Opera with the Charlemagne Orchestra in Belgium. She has also sung principal roles in several U.S. opera premieres, including Susanna in Mercadante’s I due Figaro, Isabella in Donizetti’s Olivo e Pasquale, and Queen of the Night in Peter von Winter’s long-lost sequel to The Magic Flute, Das Labyrinth.
In spring 2013, Elizabeth performed the national anthem at a star-studded groundbreaking ceremony for a new national tennis center in New York City’s Crotona Park. Other concert highlights include soprano soloist in Faure’s Requiem with The Chorale in Central Illinois, a summer musicale with New Jersey’s Pacific Encore Performances, and an opera dinner concert series in collaboration with TasteMunich in Germany.
Elizabeth performed jazz standards and showtunes with the esteemed late Chris Gillespie at Bemelman’s Bar in New York’s famed Carlyle Hotel. A life-long lover of the Great American Songbook, she performed in musicals throughout childhood before discovering opera. Elizabeth holds performance degrees in both piano and voice, with highest honors.
